QBD: Edit QBINSTANCEFINDER17.INI File

When you update to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop, then try to run the sync, sometimes, the Sync Manager has problems knowing the correct version of QuickBooks it's supposed to run.

 

That's because each time you open QuickBooks, a record is stored in a file call the QBINSTANCEFINDER17.INI file.

 

To resolve this problem, follow these steps.

 

STEP 1:  Locate QBINSTANCEFINDER17.INI on your computer.  It will most likely be located at

C:\ProgramData\INTUIT\QuickBooks\QBINSTANCEFINDER17.INI

But if you don't see it, please use the Windows Explorer to search the C: Drive (or whatever drive your QuickBooks is on) for this file.

 

STEP 2:  Right click on the file and select, Open With Notepad.  Please note, you MUST open with Notepad.  Do not open with Wordpad.  ONLY use Notepad.

 

STEP 3:  Delete everything below [QBINSTANCEFINDER], then save the file

STEP 4:  Close the file, then retry the sync.
